I was hoping to have a solid summer of biking and hiking, but I just haven’t had the motivation to go out in the Phoenix heat!
For a long time I’ve been able to deal with and train through the summer, but in the past few years it has really started to effect me. I started noticing this in 2015, there were a few hot bike rides that really sent me sideways. I’m much more careful than I used to be when it comes to afternoon summer activities, always want to make home to the wife!!
I know with proper hydration and getting up early I can safely enjoy outdoor activities all year long, lots of people do it. But, sometimes when I take the dog out at 4am and it’s hot I just don’t feel like sweating it out.
Hoping to find my mojo!

What do you do when the weather makes you lack motivation to get out and go?
It doesn’t get that hot in the UK but nearly did for a couple.of days in July. The novelty of extremes in weather used to get me out. I hate riding in sub zero temps so if/when I do, I have to force myself by using the ride for an errand

That’s a good way to make yourself get on the bike. The 100s must have been brutal in the UK! At least we know the heat is coming here in AZ!

Brutal because the infrastructure is not there for it. Personally, I would like more heat here more often. My commute routine fits around it easily

I know the feeling! It’s such a bummer when you want to get out but just don’t feel like it. I can’t say that I’ve figured out a good way to find the motivation but when it hits I get as much out of it as possible. Good luck with the heat!

Ugh! The heat! It makes working out sooooo much harder!
I do force myself to go to bed earlier and get up before the sun so I can find the comparative “cooler” part of the day. Of course, our hot days (Midwest) are not like yours, the trouble for me is the humidity with the warmer temps. Surrounded by hundreds of miles of massive growing crops can produce really tough breathing conditions.
Do what you can do, just do something! 🙂
If it’s any consolation, the days are geting shorter already.

I’ve done RAGBRAI four times and can easily remember the heat and humidity emanating from the corn fields!

So much for that “dry heat” crap, huh?

Works fine when it’s in the 90s, once it heads towards 110 it just sucks!
